Lilian Orogbu: "A beauty pageant or a federal lawmaker?"

By Izuchukwu Adichie

Apart from the fact that Lilian Orogbo diverted N200 million federal government palliatives meant for the people of Awka North and South constituency, she has a trait of a "beauty pageant and ineffective lawmaking". So when the announcement was made that she won the election for a federal house, and I saw her photos, I asked myself if it wasn’t such a calamity for a beauty pageant to transition into politics and even to represent Awka. Such a calamity!!

Compared with other female federal lawmakers from Anambra both in the past and present, Orogbo, the beauty - pageant lawmaker in her eight months has not been able to meet the legislative expectations of her constituent, has not attracted a single project or intervention, and has clearly shown she talk without some level of thought or cognition. However, how can a lawmaker who should partner with her state Governor in promoting law and order, become the one that is sponsoring the people not to be law-abiding, continuing street hawking, roadside and walkway trading which causes accidents, blocking of flood channels, and flooding, and traffic.

Even after months of a notice on enforcement of the ban by ACDTA against roadside trading and walkway hawking, the beauty-pageant lawmaker is seriously advocating for a breakdown of law and order with a bid for Awka to remain a glorified village, maybe, she is benefitting from the previous ruins of Awka.

Lilian Orogbu didn't care for the vulnerable, elderly and poor more than Soludo's administration that is known for empathy and selfless leadership, but if she claims she cares more , we will then ask why she diverted federal government Christmas palliatives meant for her constituents , and where about federal government interventions and projects in her eight months in the Green Chamber.
