 Anambra Government, Hosts At Risk Children Program Team, Office of the Vice President

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Government House, Awka, hosts a delegation from the At Risk Children Program (ARC-P) domiciled in the office the Vice President of Nigeria.

Speaking to the delegation, Mr Governor, who was ably represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, stated that the programme which its  objectives is rescuing and empowering  vulnerable children across the country, came to the state at the right time.

Enumerating the efforts of the state government to empower youths in the state, Mr Deputy Governor listed youth empowerment scheme initiated by the Governor as one of areas  vulnerable youths can be equipped with skills, adding that over 5000 teachers were recently employed and deployed to schools across the state, this he noted was to strengthen education in the state.

Dr Ibezim, explained further that the government  through various ministries is building road infrastructures, employed health workers and equipped some General Hospitals in the state, these according to him are to improve the quality of life of both citizens and residents.

He appealed to the programme coordinator to  increase the number of Ndi Anambra to be trained by the body to more than one thousand initially planned, demanding that the impact of the programme should be felt in the state, while declaring that "Anambra is ready and they should do what is verifiable."

Earlier in her speech, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment, Mrs Maryam Uwais, stated that the programme is aimed at  taking away about 30 - 50 persons, age 1-24,  away from  the street of each local government in the state.  

According to Mrs Uwais, the Programme will train and empower them under the "ARC-P" a programme, this she emphasised was to take the children away from the street, train and empower them on entrepreneur skills.

Participating ministries in the areas of collaboration with the ARC-P were represented at the meeting, these include, Agriculture, Works, Health, Industry and Youth Empowerment.
