 HEALTH: Idemili South Council Chairman Flags Off Maternal Newborn, Child Health Week, Tasks Pregnant Women On Antenatal care

The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Council Area, Hon Obi Amaka Iyom , today flagged off the Maternal Newborn, Child Health week and tasks pregnant women on antenatal care. 

The free medical treatment initiated by Idemili South Local Government Area was in collaboration with Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.


The medical outreach which is geared towards promoting and ensuring good health for the residents in the above mentioned council area had in attendance the Secretary/CEO Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem, UNICEF Personnel cum Technical Facilitator, Mrs Louis Onyeike, Director Idemili South Health Authority, Mrs Florence Ojukwu, ward councilors, Ward Development Committee (WDC) Representatives–Chief Ikedimma Aniukwu, Chief Felix Onwuka amongst other Stakeholders.



The Official Flag-off Ceremony for the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week in Idemili South Council Area took place in Primary Health Center (PHC) Ebenesi Nnobi and Nkolofia Awka-Etiti 1 respectively.


Declaring the commencement of both interventions in the two holding Primary Healthcare centers, Hon Amaka Obi assured the residents of government’s commitment towards eradicating every vaccine-preventable disease, supporting and promoting the health and well being of her citizenry as well as continued fight against common causes of deaths in Pregnant Women and Children.


She, also, charged pregnant women in the council area to embrace antenatal care.


She further advised them to frequently attend healthcare facilities during and after delivery and to embrace good healthy living. 


Speaking at Ebenesi Primary Health Center, Pharm Chisom Uchem commended Hon Amaka Obi for always making the health and wellness of the people of Idemili South a topmost priority and especially for working so hard to ensure that this programme was executed. 


She insisted that utilization of healthcare facilities for services remains the right thing to do and should be enjoyed by all. 


“She, however, commended Gov Soludo for his keen interest in the Health Sector whiling noting that a healthy Nation is a result of healthy children so it is better we prevent these diseases than curing them, she added”.


In their respective remarks, the Ward Development Committee representative, Chief Ikemma Aniukwu and the Matron i/c of Ebenesi Primary Health Center, Matron Ukpaka F.N.  commended Pharm Chisom Uchem and Hon Amaka Obi for organizing the programme.


The event saw two malnourished children and was placed on read-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF). Other health services such as immunization, birth registration, family planning, distribution of Vitamin A, Vitamin C syrup, routine drugs for pregnant women such as Folic acid, Ferrous sulfate, Calcium lactate, paracetamol and multivitamin tablets added glamour to the event.
