Drawing a Thin Line on NYCN Anambra Leadership: A New Sheriff Emerges Under Full Constitutional Compliance

By Okpala Chinedu Vincent

The leadership direction of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Anambra State Chapter has entered a new constitutional phase following the appointment of Comrade Godwin Ugochukwu Okoye as the Acting State Chairman by the National President, Amb Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo duly re-elected at the Yenagoa, Bayelsa National Congress.

This development did not occur in isolation. It followed a series of constitutionally documented events that created a leadership vacuum in the Anambra State Chapter, prompting lawful intervention from the National Secretariat.

Why the Former Chairman, Surveyor Emeka Obi, Was Removed

The National Executive Council (NEC) has clarified that the suspension of Surveyor Emeka Obi was not arbitrary, political, or influenced by external actors. Rather, it was the direct implementation of Congress resolutions which suspended him alongside 30 others for constitutionally established violations.

His suspension was grounded on the following:

1. Insubordination

Surveyor Obi repeatedly failed to comply with lawful directives from both the National Secretariat and the NEC. His refusal to obey constituted authority created tension within the organization and undermined the leadership structure of the Council at the state level.

2. Executive Recklessness

Investigations revealed that he engaged in unilateral decision-making, bypassing due process and internal consultation mechanisms. These actions exposed the Council to avoidable administrative conflicts and disrupted the stability required for youth developmental coordination.

 3. Flagrant Disregard for the NYCN Constitution (2018, as Amended 2025)

Surveyor Obi’s conduct consistently breached the constitutional guidelines governing administrative operations, leadership conduct, and organizational governance. These violations were considered grave enough to threaten the credibility, order, and institutional image of the NYCN.

 Congress Decision Implemented by NEC

It is important to emphasize that the NEC, under the leadership of Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, did not unilaterally suspend the former Chairman.

The NEC only implemented the official directive of the National Congress, which had already sanctioned and suspended him and 30 others.

This reinforces the fact that all actions taken were strictly constitutional, procedural, and transparent**.

Filling the Leadership Vacuum in Anambra State

Following the withdrawal of Surveyor Obi and select members of his executive team from the Bayelsa Congress that re-elected Amb. Sukubo, a constitutional vacuum was created in the Anambra State leadership structure.

In line with his mandate as the authentic National President, and pending any contrary ruling from a competent court, Amb. Sukubo appointed Comrade Godwin Ugo Okoye as Acting State Chairman to ensure continued representation and administrative continuity.

Clarifying Misinformation

The public is urged to completely disregard circulating claims suggesting that the new leadership in Anambra is sponsored by any political party, aspirant, or factional interest.

The NYCN remains:

politically neutral,

institutionally independent, and

fully aligned with the developmental vision of the Anambra State Government.

The Council continues to enjoy its full rights and privileges under the progressive governance of His Excellency, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR. We also extend warm congratulations to Mr. Governor and reaffirm our commitment to advancing youth development across the state.
