The lingering impasse between the Anambra State Government and Keke/ shuttle drivers, seem to be having a headway for solution, as Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, intervened to douse tension between the state government and transporters in the state.
Hope raised for resolution of the impasse on Saturday, September 24, 2022, when Mr. Deputy Governor stormed Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where Keke and shuttle drivers gathered to protest against monthly Levy, instead of daily pay imposed on them by the state government.
Dr. Ibezim, while addressing the drivers informed them that, government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has a human face and is ready to listen to their complains, notifying them of plans to engage select members of the transporters, from across the state for a meeting with the state government.
Mr. Deputy Governor, finally cautioned the protesting drivers against violent conducts,
warning that lawlessness and destruction of public property will not be tolerated.
Some of the drivers who spoke during the protest march, include Mr. Anthony Ejike, indicated that their nerves have been calmed with the soothing words from the Deputy Governor, assuring that they are ready to listen to the solution being proffered by the state government, saying that they are ready for dialogue.
Some top government functionaries present at the Ekwueme Square venue was Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Ernest Ezeajughi, MD/ CEO Anambra Transport Management Agency, ATMA Mr Emeka Konti Okonkwo among others
