AS ANAMBRA TOWN UNION ELECTIONS DRAW CLOSER.

matters arising...

Ndi Anambra, it is important that the government inform the people through the office of Mr. Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs on the latest developments and issues being handled in preparation for the upcoming Town Union Elections in our various communities.

It has come to the notice of Mr. Commissioner - Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne that some community leaders, power grabbers and some so-called kingmakers are working very hard to frustrate the government efforts in conducting free and fair elections in their communities this December.

They go about creating crises so that their preferred stooges can be installed as "Caretaker" and give them their desired continuous strangulation of the masses.

This is interesting, but it may interest them to know that the government has abolished the era of caretakers and has gone on to announce repeatedly that credible elections must be conducted in all communities where the tenure of the incumbent executives had expired.

Traditional Rulers (Ndi Igwe) have also been advised to hands-off Town Union activities and allow the masses to make their choice irrespective of political party affiliation.

The government is also encouraging anyone or group being oppressed, intimidated, denied their turn or shortchanged in any form that is against the constitution of the Town Union to come forward with such complaints.

The office of the Commissioner is always open to listen to one and all.

The government of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has promised to transform Anambra State into a livable and prosperous homeland and we shall ensure that he succeeds in our own little corner.
