The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Idemili) was conferred 'Distinguished Local Government Chairman Award by Rootswatch magazine for quality leadership through service delivery and accountability.


The national award according to Prince Bayode Ojo who is the chairman, Rootswatch editorial board said that it was designed to showcase the impactful achievements of local government helmsman and reward excellence in grassroots governance.


Hon. Obi lauded Rootswatch magazine for recognizing her commitment to infrastructure, health care, human capital development, educational development and other numerous people-oriented programs.


She described the award as a challenge to do more and also applauded the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo for giving her the opportunity to serve umu Idemili South.


Furthermore, the council boss said that she will continue to focus on technical and vocational education as one of the ways of engaging the youths positively.


Earlier, the chairman Rootswatch editorial magazine,Prince Bayode Ojo hailed Hon. Amaka Obi and other awardees for standing tall in the midst of their colleagues, stating that the award was a duty call for more development for their people in the areas.


In his words; we are proud to recognize Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi(Iyom Idemili) who did not just view in education but also in infrastructures and human capital development and she didn't see it as a burden but as a responsibility because of far-reaching impacts on the society.
