Federal Government Delegation, Anambra Ministry of Environment Tour Erosion Sites in the State

Worried by the increasing ecological challenges facing Anambra State, a delegation from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the State Ministry of Environment on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 paid an on the-spot assessment visit to some erosion sites in the state.

While showing the team around during the tour that saw the team visit erosion sites in Nkpor Idemili North, Oba Idemili South and Ozubulu Ekwusigo Local Government Area, The Anambra State's Commissioner for Environment Engr. Felix Odimegwu lamented the increasing number of erosion sites in the state, declaring that the problem is beyond what that state can handle.
He further called on the Federal Government to increase ecological funding accruing to Anambra, citing the peculiarity of the challenges faced by the state, decrying the devastation at Ukpor, Ezinifite and Amichi in Nnewi South and Umudim Nnewi North LGA.
On his part, the leader of the Federal Government delegation Engr. Lawal Muhammed, noted that they are in Anambra for on the-spot visit to erosion sites in the state following the reports of ecological challenges confronting it, assuring that they will report the level of devastation met on ground.
Some of the residents who spoke during the tour include, Mr Okwudili Uchenna and Mrs Stella Obi thanked the government for remembering the area, while decring the hardship caused on the residents of Royal Estate Nkpor where a lodge housing student of Anambra State School of Nursing was submerged by landslide, appealing to the government for immediate action to save the neighborhood from total collapse.
