 My Scorecard As I Mark One Year In Office- Amaka Obi

My team and I were sworn into office in August 2022 by His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo. 

Shortly after that, i moved straight down to Idemili South local government Secretariat for an on the spot assessment of the council headquarters and I promised Ndi Idemili South that we will work round the clock to take the council to a lofty heights and be Hundred percent accountable.

The following are our achievements so far;

ENVIRONMENT: 

On assumption of office, Idemili South Local Government Secretariat was overgrown with grasses, gradually turning into bush and we swung into action.

 Today, we have made the secretariat clean and liveable, serviced our Generating Set and fixed our Solar light all thanks to Almighty God, Our working Governor Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his Amiable wife Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo.

We were the first local government in-line with Governor Soludo’s initiative to inaugurate/ flag off Operation clean, eco-friendly and liveable Idemili South.

Idemili South LGA under my watch inaugurated a 5man committee drawn from different wards in the local government headed by the councilor of each ward and mandated them to be bridge builders between ASWAMA and the people.

To boost the morale of our people, we mapped out prize gifts for the neatest town and most environmentally clean market. we are pleased to announce to you that based on the assessment of our supervisory councillor on environment in conjunction with ASWAMA team, the neatest town and market for the first quarter are Alor and Afor Nnobi Market respectively. We have equally gifted them branded new ASWAMA waste collection buckets.

We employed 30 streets sweepers from the 7 towns of Idemili South and we have plans to employ more.

We have done our first stage of desilting and opening of drainages, we entered the second phase on Saturday 1st April 2023 and we have done the third and fourth phase.

 Idemili South LGA under my watch cleared an over 12years abandoned mountainous refuse dump located in Eke Awka-Etiti market.

To maintain sanity and improve security around the Local Government Council Headquarters Ojoto, my team and I have removed all illegal structures attached on the perimeter fence of the local government council headquarters Ojoto.

We embark on Monthly sanitation every last Saturday of the month 

SECURITY, LAW and ORDER, PEACE AND RECONCILIATIONS 

On assumption of office, insecurity in Idemili South was on the rise, we experienced kidnappings and dumping of unidentified corpses in bushes around MmiriJohn, Ojoto and MmiriObiaja, Nnobi.

To tackle this, with the help of Anambra state government under the leadership of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, we  set up a 40 man security personnel for Idemili South Local Government Area (Idemili South AVG ) headed by a well experienced Son of Idemili South and the outfit is fully equipped and funded. 

 For sustainability, we have reached out to stakeholders and prominent sons and daughters of Idemili South for more support and collaboration.

We have equally held monthly security meetings with the police, DSS, Civil defence, immigration and other security personnels and vigilante groups to ensure a crime free Idemili South Local Government Area. In our last security meeting we had in attendance The senior special adviser to the Governor on Security Matters.

Peace and security goes hand in hand therefore we went further to reconcile a long wailing town leadership tussles in Alor inline with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's drive for a livable Anambra and with the help of the capacity commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters Hon. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne we have conducted there various town union elections. We have also ensured a peaceful ASATU YOUTH elections.

We also partnered with Alor community, The Alor People's convention for the installation of close circuit TV cameras in strategic location in Alor and also in Awka-Etiti.

(4) INFRASTRUCTURE:

We have worked closely with Anambra State government under the leadership of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo through the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters for the good people of Idemili South with the Flag off and construction of many roads and other infrastructural developments.

We have set up road maintenance agency named “Idemili South Road Maintenance Agency" (ISRMA), this is to enable us have a quick quality maintenance works on failed portions of our road and dangerous pot holes.

Last Year December 2022, Idemili South local government under the leadership of Hon. Mrs Amaka facilitated the sand filling, palliative works and grading:

(1) Awka-Etiti Ide Nnokwa-Road.

(2) Awka-Etiti- Nnewi Nitel road road.

(3) Nnobi Agbom Primary School to Awka-Etiti Road.

(4) Nnobi Ume Junction Awka-Etiti Road.

(5) Awka-Etiti Azigbo Nnewi Road.

(6) Oba Old Road to St Paul Anglican Church Oba.

(7) Akwu-Ukwu Oye Market Road.

We have reconstructed the collapsed Nnokwa Health Center perimeter fence to prevent invasion by hoodlums.

We facilitated the re-construction of a Culvert at St. Joseph Catholic church Awka-Etiti Isseke Ukpor road for easy access through the state ministry of works.

We are presently renovating the burnt Idemili South LGA INEC Office.ll6

We attracted the reconstruction of one kilometre Oba - Umuoji road asphalted through Hon. Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu (Ike Cubana).

We were the first Local Government Council to change our bill board to the new look of solution is here.

We are presently doing the renovation and repainting of the traditional rulers building inside the local government headquarters.

We have installed air conditioners, bought new chairs and new tables for the Idemili South LGA Council hall so that we can stop hiring chairs and table. We Also renovated the damaged ceilings at the local government council Hall. We also inspected the building of Agro Industry by our illustrious son, Seaman Group.

Idemili South LGA under my watch is currently building a modern toilet at Eke Awka-Etiti.

We are also in continuous talk with the state government to do more road constructions in Idemili South so as to check insecurity and improve the well being of Ndi Idemili.

We have repainted our local council headquarters all round perimeter fence with carvings as a beautification at the entrance of the council headquarters.

We have also done repair works and replacement of all damaged drive way/walk way inside the local government Secretariat.

We have also repaired and replaced all old windows in the local government council headquarters with almanaco windows.

We are presently constructing an ICT building inside the local government council secretariat for easy access to information and communication technology to our people 

I am always passionate and concerned about the welfare of Ndi Idemili therefore, I do my best at every point in time in bringing to the notice of our state government the challenges we face here. I am instrumental and fully participated in the inspection of the erosion site at Oba - Owerri Road. We also brought the attention of the state government to the damaged portion of Nnobi - Nnokwa - Agulu road and I was at the inspection with a representative of the Works commissioner.

HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT, YOUTH AND WOMAN EMPOWERMENT 

Last year October 20th 2022, We flagged off a skill acquisition programme where we trained over 150 women and Youths in different skills, including Nylon production and packaging, Bakery and  Catering, Bread making and other confectioneries, Cosmetic and make up, production of head wear (Fascinators) and bead making. During the graduation ceremony We empowered the successful graduates with Ovens, nylon making machines, make up kits and  Hat/head wear production kits.

We have also just started the second phase of our Idemili South skill acquisition training and this time, over 300 women and Youths of Idemili South are undergoing different trainings on;

(1) Sewing/Fashion Design

(2) Bakery/Catering 

(3) Hair dressing, Facinator, make up and Gele

(4) ICT

(5) Nylon production

(6) Disinfectant and pomade production.

I always go round to supervise and monitor the trainings.

This we are doing to key into Mr Governor’s initiative of ‘One youth two skills’.

We have also partnered with Elite B2M USA INCORPORATION to train our youths in decorative floor tiling, Wall decoration, painting, ceiling etc.

I must have to commend the able wife of our governor Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo for all her encouragement and support. 

EDUCATION

In commemoration of the international day of the girls child, We organized a workshop for the girl child on health, education and medical rights. Over 500 participants were drawn from different schools in our Local Government to participate.

As a way to motivate them, we gave them gift items such as sanitary pads, customized and soludofied exercise books. We also visited four female school in Idemili South and gifted them sanitary pad and we invited doctors  to enlighten them on various concerns of the girls child.

We organised a symposium on sexual health reproduction for all the female secondary school in Idemili South. In

I use to move round the schools in Idemili South unannounced to ascertain the performace of teachers and students. Based on what we saw on ground during the inspection we now decided to organise a teacher's submit.

We then became the first and only Local Government to have organised a teacher's submit where we invited teachers from all the schools in Idemili South local government and we invited professionals to deliver quality lectures and training for the teachers.

We have given a total of seven scholarships to students, four of them personally sponsored by myself as the best performing students while we partnered with Support Children Education Funds SCEFUND to sponsor the remaining three less privileged throughout there stay in school.

In partnership with the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) and Support Children Education Funds (SCEFUND), we have organised seminars and mentored alot of young men and women on Alternative Dispute/Conflict resolution through the method of arbitration and negotiation and Prevention of violence against women and drug abuse.

AGRICULTURE

We ensured proper distribution of hybrid palm fruits and coconut seedlings from Agric commission to all the Town down to the house holds in Idemili South last years planting season.

 We have also rounded up the second phase of the hybrid palm nut and coconut seedlings distribution to all the twelve wards of Idemili South LGA, this we are doing inline with our Governor's initiative for every household in Anambra to have an Agricultural produce which can fetch them money every season.

We have also commenced the planting of trees across the local government.

HEALTH

We are the first Local Government to do a ward based free medical outreach and we also sponsored a three months free medical treatment for Children, the elderly and the youths in the seven communities that made up Idemili South LGA in all our primary healthcare centers and health post.

We also partnered with Anambra State primary healthcare development agency for the one week maternal, new born and child health which we flagged of at Nkolofia health center Awka-Etiti and Ebenesi Nnobi health center.

We have visited and supervised all health center and health posts in Idemili South LGA.

CORDIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH CIVIL SERVANTS

We have great values and share wonderful relationship with Idemili South LGA Council civil servants. The relationship, Support, encouragement and love we share have made them to be more punctual to work and productive too. Last year December as their Christmas package I shared bags of rice to them to encourage them more.

I have always created quality time to attend meetings with Idemili South LGA civil servants/workers and the meetings have helped in fostering good working relationships with them.

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GREAT WOMEN OF IDEMILI SOUTH

I have a cordial relationship with women in Idemili South, I always meet with them to encourage them. The great women of Idemili South had also in return showned me true and sincere support in this journey. 

I made sure I went round the seven towns in Idemili South during August meetings.

We have a resounding relationship with Ndi Igwe, The Presidents General of the seven towns, the women PG's and we have meetings often to discuss issues on development of each town.

RELATIONSHIP WITH PARTY 

I have a very close working relationship with our great party APGA from the ward to the local and the state level and I am greatful for the opportunity they have bestowed on me to serve the good people of Idemili South LGA been the only woman chairman I am very humbled, honoured and grateful. 

Last year December in the spirit of celebration I donated some bags of rice that was shared among party members 

During the last General elections, I was committed and we showed great support to all our APGA candidates. I personally donated alot of electioneering materials and I did my best to ensure that all APGA candidates came out successful in Idemili South LGA.

My commitment to our great party APGA has made many people from other parties including APC and PDP returned back to our great party APGA. We have over the last one year welcome about 90 defectors from other parties into APGA.

AWARDS

Our hard works, good service and commitment to the good people of Idemili South and beyond has attracted numerous merit awards to me. Late last year, ASATU Idemili North and South gave me an award of excellence. Early this year I was awarded an outstanding chairman of the year by ROOTSWATCH MAGAZINE. And many other awards I have received.

For achieving all these in a short period of time, I must emphatically Thank The almighty God, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his wonderful wife Mrs Nonye Soludo for giving me this wonderful opportunity to serve Ndi Idemili South. Not forgetting My Understanding Husband, Children and family members, My team of Councillors, Our Great party APGA, The Idemili South LGA head of local government administration and all the civil servants, the good people of Idemili South LGA, friends and well wishers most importantly women.
