APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN MOURNS PROFESSOR BEN NWABUEZE.

The APGA National Chairman, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, has expressed deep sadness over the death of Professor Ben Nwabueze, SAN, NNOM, CON, former Minister of Education and constitutional lawyer, at the age of 94.

Prof. Ben Nwabueze, alongside other prominent Igbo figures such as Akanu Ibiam, M.I. Okpara, K.O. Mbadiwe, Chief Ugochukwu, P.N. Okigbo, and Udoji, co-founded Ohaneze Ndigbo in 1976. He served as the pioneer Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and held the title of Oduah Afo-na-isagba of Atani, Anambra State. Ben Nwabueze was also the first academic lawyer to be made a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1978, solely based on his published works. Alongside Rotimi Williams and others, he drafted the 1979 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Barr. Ezeokenwa described Prof. Ben Nwabueze as, "a consummate constitutional lawyer, author, academic, and reformist. He was a beacon of wisdom and inspiration for all who crossed his path. With his penetrating gaze and dignified demeanor, he commanded respect and admiration from both friends and foes alike."

The APGA National Chairman stated, "Professor Ben Nwabueze was a pan-Africanist. Beyond his legal and literary contributions, he was an unparalleled mentor and guide to countless aspiring lawyers and intellectuals. He made immense contributions to Africa and Nigeria's constitutionalism and rule of law."

Barr. Ezeokenwa added that Ben Nwabueze fought for justice, equity, and fairness. He was a strong advocate for the Igbo cause in Nigeria. The APGA National Chairman further expressed that Africa, Nigeria, and indeed the Igbo people have lost a colossal figure. On behalf of APGA, the true progressive movement of the people, he extended his condolences to Prof. Nwabueze's immediate family, the Government of Anambra, Ndi Igbo, and Nigeria. He also prayed for the eternal repose of his soul.
