GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU'S PASSING A DEVASTATING LOSS: APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN.
GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU'S PASSING A DEVASTATING LOSS: APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, has expressed deep sadness at the tragic demise of Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of Ondo State, stating, "This catastrophic event marks a sorrowful period not only for the government and people of Ondo State, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), but for the nation that he faithfully served."
Governor Akeredolu was a son of Owo, Ondo State, born on the 21st of July, 1956, a distinguished alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, and an esteemed member of the Bar since 1978. His death on Wednesday, at the age of 67, constitutes a significant loss, dimming the light of one of the most prominent legal minds in Nigeria.
The APGA National Chairman acknowledged the remarkable legacy of Governor Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and an exemplary former President of the Nigerian Bar Association. "His tenacity, intellectual prowess, and steadfast commitment to national values were hallmarks of his storied life and career."
As an indefatigable proponent of the rule of law, democratic norms, and the ethos of true federalism, Governor Akeredolu's departure from this world is acutely felt. His role as a vanguard human rights activist who stood against oppressive military rule was a categorical force that contributed to Nigeria's advent of democracy in 1999.
Attaining the apex of his career did not only imply legal acclaim as a prominent member of the inner Bar, but also saw him ascend to key leadership roles. Akeredolu served not only as a governor, but also as the influential Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and the Southern Governors’ Forum. His impact and achievements are immeasurable.
Barr. Ezeokenwa, on behalf of APGA, extends his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved Akeredolu family and to the residents and government of Ondo State, and prays for the eternal repose of his soul.
Signed:
Dr. Tony Olisa Mbeki,
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
27th December 2023.
